Baylii is a Vancouver singer-songwriter and record producer, native to the greater Toronto area of the Anishinabeg territory. He acknowledges that the land on which he creates and collaborates is the unceded territory of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nation.
Defined as a singer-songwriter (Bob Marley, Paul Simon, Bradley Nowell, Willie Nelson, James Brown), Baylii defines his style as "transcultural".
Growing up around his fathers drum and percussion shop in Toronto, Baylii took in traditional teachings from Africa, Cuba, New Orleans, and the West Indies. His acoustic guitar and vocal performance synergizes as a soulful and rhythmic hybrid covering numerous genres. The love of songwriting came early but only when he discovered the power of lyrics did Baylii learn that words are just as musical as the melody.
Whether he is in the process of penning out a country ballad or a funky R&B jam, exceptional songwriting is the one common denominator. Baylii's approach to music is both spiritual and technical. As a record producer, he uses his education and the tools available to bring art to life. Baylii's process of writing music is about getting out of the way and allowing the song to do the talking.
His highly anticipated album, "Enough" is being packaged into an LP on vinyl. Baylii has collaborated with Vancouver's finest musicians (Darren Parris, Cassandra Maze, Alex Maher, Jess Vaira, Jesse Bentley, Kristina Jessen, Mark Henning, Reid Hendry, Leon Powers, among others). The record was tracked within the 2020 pandemic and finished just before New Years. Many of the sessions were online collaborations using various studios from Victoria to Nashville.
