Baylii is a Vancouver singer-songwriter and record producer, native to the greater Toronto area of the Anishinaabe territory. He acknowledges that the land on which he creates and collaborates is the unceded territory of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Culture is what his music truly honours. His acoustic guitar and vocal performance is a soulful and rhythmic hybrid of numerous genres and styles. Whether he is penning out a country ballad or a funk jam, there is always one common denominator - great songwriting. His approach to music is both spiritual and technical. As a record producer, he uses his education to use the tools available to bring art to life. His process of writing music is about getting out of the way and allowing the song to do the talking.
The latest recordings are just finishing and soon to be packaged into an LP. He has been collaborating with Vancouver's finest musicians (Darren Parris, Cassandra Maze, Alex Maher, Jess Vaira, Jesse Bentley, Brock MacFarlane, Mark Henning, Reid Hendry, Leon Powers, among others). Many of his sessions have turned into online collaborations using various studios from Victoria to Nashville.
Baylii has just finished releasing a 10 part YouTube series as a form of promotion and awareness to the local Vancouver music and business scene.
The first single, "I'm Gonna Miss Ya" is out now.
